PROMOTING DIVERSITY AND ACCEPTANCE ON CAMPUS
The importance of diversity and inclusivity reaches far beyond the work place or college campuses. Differences in ideas and thoughts generate open-mindedness, which is a crucial step to take for a more compassionate and accepting society. As the Cultural Diversity Chair at the Wesleyan Student Government, I worked with a wonderful group of young women to provide and promote an inclusive environment of mindfulness, respect, and tolerance on Wesleyan campus.
As the liaison between the numerous diversity groups and campus resources, our division was responsible for representing the diverse voices on our campus, and strived to infiltrate the invisible barriers of stereotypes and miscommunication.
We organized several events to promote our mission, such as an awareness campaign during Halloween, in which we sent out posters about cultural appropriation and the misuse of clothing items for entertainment that are otherwise sacred to a particular culture.
Poster designs that I have created for our "The World I am From" documentary series event.
